What is your opinion of the three movies in general, and what is your impression of The Hobbit, soon to be on the big screen?

I'm hesitant on the idea of having The Hobbit go on big screen. I read the book itself a couple of years ago and I did enjoy the story's plot and twisting climax. As a book, I loved it. As an upcoming movie, I worry that the production won't be as spectacular and skip a lot of important details/events similar with other movies (Eragon, Howl's Moving Castle, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, etc.) that adapted films after famous novels. Of course, I could be proven wrong.

In terms of the Lord of the Rings, it's been a long while since I've actually seen it. But, from what I recall (which I am proud to say is a hefty amount) my opinion would be the following:

--The Lord of the Rings has probably been one of THE best war/action movies I have ever seen. The movie isn't so gory that it is unrealistic (a slice on a shoulder doesn't spray a splash of blood) but has enough violence and enough blood and guts to be believable.  The movie has a captivating plot that rivets the audience to just stare in wide-shock wonder as the 'good guys fight the bad guys'.
--There is subtle humor laced in that (I believe) eases the suspense as events grow more and more tense.
--The movie is unexpected and always has some sort of surprise to astonish the crowd. I often had found myself unable to predict what would happen next, because I wasn't sure if any plan they decided would be disrupted, and if so, how? By who?
--The involvement of so many different creatures (such as Gollum, the elves, wizards or the tree giants) adds a mystical air to The Lord of the Rings.

This is my general opinion for the most part. I also haven't read the books, so I have no idea whether or not the movie does follow the book or to what extent. Other than that... I'm honest to say that the movies did impact me as a kid.
